Friday night was the annual Gold Medal Plates dinner. This is a fundraiser held every year to raise money for Olympic athletes. There is always a great crop of athletes that show up to this event, and this year was no exception. The crowd of generous donors were treated by the presence of Kyle Shewfelt, Mark Tewksbury, Alexandre Bilodeau, Mike Brown, Adam Kreuk and many others. The evening starts off with a silent auction as well as food and wine from 10 of the top chefs around. This decadent dishes make up the best meal I get each year. As per usual, I got talking to individuals and missed most of the food dishes. After some chit chat, we sat down at a table and they got on with the live auction. I sat at the Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP table. The people there were very friendly and all very interesting. The music by Jim Cuddy and Colin James drowned out some of the converstion, but for the most part, we just sat there and talked.
This evening is always such a high for me. You surrounded by excellence, in both the corporate world and the sporting world. Everyone you talk to has a different story and everyone is there for one reason, they have a passion for Canadian sporting excellence. During the speeches and videos, I always get goosebumps and get quite fidgety. Even though I’m totally enjoying myself there, all I want to do is go for a run to help make my dreams come true. Thank you to everyone who was there on the weekend, it was a great night.
