This past weekend the ITU (International Triathlon Union) kicked off it’s World Championship series with the first race in Tongyeong Korea. This series includes 6 races in big cities, with big prize money in the goal of having all the top triathletes compete against each other multiple times throughout the season.
The Canadian women had an excellent showing, putting 3 women in the top 10: Kathy Tremblay- 4th, Kirsten Sweetland- 5th and Lauren Groves- 10th.
The mens race was an epic battle down to the wire between the Australian Brad Kahlefeldt and Kiwi Bevan Docherty. In a lunging sprint, Docherty took the win as Kahlefeldt fell to the ground in second place. Simon
Whitfield was Canada’s top finisher in 14th, with Kyle Jones placing 19th.
